The Suburban Life publications include the Elmhurst Press, Wheaton Leader, Downers Grove Reporter, Berwyn Life, as well as other titles, and the website mysuburbanlife.com

"We are proud to welcome Suburban Life to our growing portfolio of family-owned, communityfocused media operations," said Tom Shaw, Shaw Media President and CEO. In markets where Shaw currently operates, Shaw acquired the St. Charles Republican, the Batavia Republican and the Geneva Republican, all in Kane County, and the Farmside, in southwestern McHenry County.

"Adding Suburban Life expands our print and digital footprint in the Chicago suburban region, and will give us opportunities to better serve our readers and advertisers," said John Rung, Shaw Media's Senior Vice President for media operations. Sales Development Services, Inc. (SDS) announced today the launch of SalesTouch®, an innovative new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform designed specifically for media advertising sales professionals.

SalesTouch analyzes advertiser spending history and revenue trends to offer specific engagement strategies to retain existing accounts, maximize revenue opportunities and empower account executives to better manage their selling time. SalesTouch also guides salespeople to be proactive with their accounts, instead of just reacting when the advertiser calls, by focusing on their next action or “touch.”

“We didn’t want to build another CRM that just counts what you sell. We wanted to build one that actually helps you sell,” says C. Lee Smith, president and CEO of Sales Development Services, Inc. “That’s why the design of this CRM system was based on a very simple premise: The only thing more important than what you’ve done for an advertiser is what you do next,” Smith adds.

SalesTouch is the only CRM that integrates a Momentum Dashboard™ into each advertiser’s profile information. These proprietary algorithms provide media sales reps with information that other CRMs do not, like an account that’s in danger of shrinking or potentially going away.

“The revenue momentum of individual advertisers is changing at unprecedented rates,” says Jerry Kackley, president of K Group and developer of the Momentum Dashboard. “Sales professionals that use Momentum have a clear and distinct advantage over their media counterparts that are simply guessing about how to engage their advertisers.”

Another exclusive element of SalesTouch is the full integration of AdMall®, the most powerful consultative sales intelligence database available for local and digital advertising. AdMall provides SalesTouch users with qualified local advertising sales opportunities, local market background research for more than 400 business types, and an online version of AdMall’s Diagnosis Call™ – which takes advertiser needs analysis to a whole new level.

“These two exclusive features will help media reps become much more effective sellers, because it tells them both when and how to engage advertisers,” says Smith.

SalesTouch was built from the ground up for account executives to use on touchscreen devices in the field. SalesTouch Mobile for the iPad, iPhone and other iOS devices is available now in the iTunes App Store. Users of Android smartphones and tablets can download SalesTouch Mobile in the Google Play market.

Prepress workflow software creates efficiencies in the production

NORTH CANTON, OH (June 4, 2012) – Presteligence, an industry leading software developer and innovator, installed NewsXtreme Production Workflow at The Garden Island in Lihue, Hawaii earlier this month. The prepress software purchase was part of a film to CTP conversion.

Presteligence installed NewsXtreme 2.8 which afforded Lihue the ability to take advantage of NewsXtreme’s improved approach to fan-out. Garden Island has configured the anamorphic fan-out to account for web stretch. Shrinking the plate tiffs results in better press registration for the 7 day a week newspaper owned by Lee Enterprises.

Richard Stein, IT Manager at The Garden Island, was heavily involved in the installation and training of NewsXtreme. He found ways to shave minutes off processing time by creating a new path for reprocessing a corrected black plate. Coined “Remake Black”, when dropped into the appropriate folder, the system will process only the black separation when resending a corrected page. “This is very common”, noted Mike Pisani, Lead Technical Manager at Presteligence “the remake black folder makes it easier and faster to re-plate only the black when there’s a typo or other correction needed.”

Meanwhile, having used NewsXtreme since February, Goldsboro News-Argus modified a few functions in the system as they installed CTP earlier this spring. These changes allowed them to better take advantage of the efficiencies NewsXtreme offers. They modified their approval process for plates needing direct printing. They also found that adjusting the output file name would be helpful so if they needed to rerun a plate, they could more easily find the specific page they needed. Prior to CTP, this was more of a manual process so the output file name didn’t affect their production efficiency.

Toronto, December 1, 2011 – U.S. and Canadian newspapers have lowered their expectations concerning most advertising revenue sources in 2012. The one exception is digital, for which 53% foresee a “large increase”.

In 2012, about 70% of newspapers have definite plans to start or upgrade content delivery on mobile devices and to improve their website for online visitors. Other popular 2012 operating initiatives include controlling or reducing both staff and non-staff costs, charging readers for digital content, and starting a new niche product.

In terms of advertising sales initiatives, 65% to 70% have definite plans to expand email, mobile or e-reader digital advertising, to improve website advertising programs and options, and to upgrade digital sales capabilities. Two other areas of attention for 2012 are upgrading print sales capabilities and improving ad pricing and rate structures.

Just over half of newspaper executives and managers surveyed said that current 2011 ad revenues are coming in worse than expected. The implication is that many newspapers will not achieve their budget forecasts this year.
