Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser Engagement

  • Peer-to-peer fundraisers help you amplify your message, connect you to new donors, and fundraise on your behalf.
  • Sometimes we refer to these individuals as “campaign ambassadors.”
  • Seek out influencers to help boost the visibility of your campaign. This will inspire new donors to trust you and contribute.
  • Do you have ambassadors that represent different communities of supporters?
    • Staff members, community leaders or partners, Community members/volunteers, partner organizations
  • 5 Steps for P2P Sucess
    • Step 1: Assemble your peer-to-peer team Make a list of potential champions you can ask to participate—think staff members, board members, program participants, volunteers, partner organizations, or sponsors.
    • Step 2: Encourage friendly competition Enable multi-team fundraising and utilize Givebutter’s leaderboard feature, allowing participants to choose between raising funds as an individual or a team, each with their own unique URL to which donations are credited.
    • Step 3: Make it personal Encourage your P2P fundraisers to include campaign information in a way that’s meaningful to them and will resonate with their social networks. This could mean a written reflection on your mission or a brief video about how your organization has impacted their lives.
    • Step 4: Rally the troops Create time to bring your P2P fundraisers together (even on Zoom) to walk through the timeline and materials they need to participate, demonstrate how to create their fundraising page, and answer any questions.
    • Step 5: Be their cheerleader—before, during, and after Send updates and encouraging messages and remind them of the tools they can use to reach their personal fundraising goals. When you achieve your goal, your peer-to-peer fundraisers will feel like they’re a part of your success—because they are!

Peer-to-Peer Campaign Tips

  • Plan in Advance – Have a plan in advance for how ambassadors will participate and amplify your fundraising message – what communication/marketing activities will they engage in?
  • Provide Clear Expectations – be upfront about what you expect and provide a toolkit which outlines expectations and provides examples.
  • Share ready-to-use content and materials – Provide ready-to-use templates that they can easily copy into emails or post to their social networks
  • Some email and social media templates have been added to the Resource Folder.
  • Update throughout your campaign Update ambassadors throughout the campaign/day on your progress.
  • Offer Incentives and Rewards: Consider offering rewards or incentives to top fundraisers to motivate them further. This could include recognition, exclusive experiences, or small gifts.
  • Say Thank You Don’t forget to thank your ambassadors!
  • Thanking Your Donors
    • Keep in mind: donors who receive a thank you message in a timely manner are 4 times more likely to give again
    • On your Givebutter page – monitor all-day November 28 and thank donors in real-time.
      • Tip: Add your name to the comment on your Givebutter page
    • Remind donors of the impact of their gifts. Thank and update them frequently to establish a stronger connection to your work.
    • Send a thank you text or email or make a quick call to say thanks
      • We will pull a list of Giving Tuesday donors (who opt in) on December 1 so you can send a timely thank you and allow you to update your supporters on Giving Tuesday results.
    • Shout on social media channels (with their permission)
      • Public positive acknowledgment inspires others to follow along because people love to be recognized for doing good stuff.
