Interim General Manager, Word in Black

Patrick Washington is a visionary media leader with over 20 years of experience transforming how Black stories are told, seen, and valued. As the former Publisher and CEO of The Dallas Weekly, he led one of the country’s oldest Black-owned publications into the digital age—revitalizing its brand, expanding its digital reach, and deepening its cultural impact. He now sits as Chairman of the Board for The Dallas Weekly.
A founding member of Word In Black, Patrick now serves as its Interim General Manager, helping to shape a new era of collaborative Black journalism across the country. His work bridges media production, digital innovation, and Black American cultural heritage, always with a focus on amplifying community voices and building sustainable platforms for truth and visibility.
Patrick’s leadership extends beyond the newsroom. He has worked closely with organizations like the Fair Park Merchants Association, championing local economic empowerment and cultural preservation.
Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Patrick is a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and an alum of Clark Atlanta University, where he first sharpened his passion for storytelling and community empowerment. He has also lived and worked in Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA—bringing a wide lens to his understanding of culture, strategy, and legacy-building.
Most importantly, Patrick is a devoted husband and father of two, committed to building a future where Black media doesn’t just survive—but thrives.
