Local Media Association invites local broadcast companies to join the Broadcast Transformation Lab, a program to accelerate innovation in three areas essential to local broadcast sustainability: Streaming, YouTube, and AI for broadcast.

Program participants will identify an outcome goal and receive coaching and technical support to achieve their goals. The cohort will meet one hour each month for a year. Meetings will feature tools and training from industry experts and peer to peer learning. Acceptance into the program also includes travel to LMA Fest and a one-day Innovation Mission, along with a cohort meet-up at the NAB Show.

The Broadcast Transformation Lab is a project of LMA, made possible with support from Google News Initiative. The lab will be led by Frank Mungeam, chief innovation officer at Local Media Association and previously vice president of digital content at TEGNA; and Tom Sly, previously senior vice president of revenue and enterprise strategy at The E.W. Scripps Co., along with select industry experts.

The three transformation tracks in the program will be:

  • Track 1: Expanding and Monetizing Streaming Video Offerings on Owned-and-Operated Platforms
  • Track 2: Strategies to Grow Audience and Monetization on YouTube
  • Track 3: Integrating AI Tools for Operational Efficiency and Content/Revenue Optimization

Participating broadcasters can choose to participate in one, two or all three tracks of transformation. Attendance at the 12 cohort meetings is a requirement of participation.

The cohort will kick off at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday July 23 and applications will be reviewed and approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Please email frank.mungeam@localmedia.org to confirm your spot.
