For years, finding the right grant or funding opportunity for your newsroom has meant digging through scattered websites and outdated PDFs. We’ve rebuilt NewsFuel to fix that.

NewsFuel is live at newsfuel.org — with updated technology and design to help you find grants, fellowships, professional trainings and other opportunities to fuel your newsroom’s mission.

Whether you’re a startup looking for your first grant or a veteran development professional building a sustainable funding pipeline, NewsFuel is designed to save you time and point you toward opportunities you might otherwise miss.

How it works

  • AI-Powered, human-cultivated: We pair the efficiency of AI with the credibility of experienced journalists, creating a robust, relevant and accurate database of opportunities for local newsrooms.
  • Built for how newsrooms actually search: Filter by opportunity type, focus area, geography, and deadline to find opportunities that fit your newsroom’s needs right now.
  • Funder profiles: Get context on who’s offering funding opportunities open to local news and what they care about.
  • Always fresh: New opportunities are added and reviewed on an ongoing basis, so you’re not chasing dead links or expired deadlines.
  • Community-driven: Built by journalists, for journalists. With humans on the other side, we are responsive to your needs and always open to new ideas and feedback.

NewsFuel is a project of the Lab for Journalism Funding at Local Media Association and Local Media Foundation. It was developed with startup funding from the Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge and expanded with support from Knight Foundation.
