Local Media Association is dedicated to fostering the long-term sustainability of publishers of color through collaborative initiatives that drive revenue growth, audience engagement, and industry innovation. By providing strategic support, funding opportunities, and business model experimentation, we help ensure that diverse media organizations can continue to serve their communities with impactful journalism. Our work includes empowering publishers through key collaboratives like Word In Black, which amplifies Black-owned media; News is Out, a groundbreaking LGBTQ+ media collective; LatidoBeat, a new initiative that strengthens Hispanic media and strategic programs like the Knight x LMA BloomLab.
These collaboratives, along with other LMA-led programs, provide publishers with access to critical resources, training, and industry partnerships designed to accelerate their success. Through direct funding, technology integration, and knowledge-sharing, LMA is helping publishers of color navigate challenges, build sustainable business models, and expand their reach. By uniting diverse media organizations in a shared mission, we drive meaningful change and ensure that these vital voices remain a cornerstone of local journalism.
Here are recent articles highlighting our initiatives toward sustainability for publishers of color.
